Kyle's Imperial Japanese Army

Post by grisnik » Sat Apr 19, 2014 9:36 am

Hi All,

New member here.. chatting with Les about joining up with my IJA forces...

Here is a shot of what the first 5 man squad looks like, and what I hope to do with the rest of them..

Now to build up the rest of the forces to get in some games. Though I have be honest, I have not played it before so am not sure of the rules ;) But when has that stopped someone before? :)

Looking forward to joining up the week after this on the 29th if possible.

Cheers
Kyle

Welcome aboard. If the rest of the army looks as good as these fellas, it'll be a honour to face them on the battlefield

Thanks Les.. lets see if I can keep this quality level up then.

Am playing around with a list.. any ideas or thoughts on it?

IJA 600pts - Basic generalist army list.. no theater selected.

second lieutenant
regular 50
additional man 10

grenadier squad
1 nco + 4 men 50
5 additional men 50
NCO SMG 3

grenadier squad
1 nco + 4 men 50
5 additional men 50
1 light mortar 25

infantry squad
1 NCO + 6 Men 70
8 additional men 80
NCO SMG 3

light mortar team (inexperienced) 24

chi ha medium tank
regular 135

600

Not a lot of combat dice ( 6 I think? ). 39 guys, and a tank.

But am curious if this even works though or not? I want the tank just to see how it plays, and to soak up points so that I dont need to assemble too many infantry :)

Any thoughts on how to fix or make it better, am curious :) In the meantime I will begin to assembling the troops!

Cheer
Kyle

Hi Kyle,

Looking forward to seeing how your Jap's turn out, looking really nice so far.

No one has gone down the Pacific route at the club, its tough to really help with anything Jap, but boots on the ground work well with all lists, so I think you will have a good game with what you have so far.

Cheers and look forward to meeting you on the 29th.

Paul.

So far, 4 games in, and I have to say that I am really enjoying the BA ruleset!
Still got a bit to figure out, and need to remember things like rules for scenarios, and also that there is the chance for extending the game by 1 turn ( forgot that last night! ).

All I can say about the Japanese at the moment though is BANZAI!!! And expect more Bamboo Warriors and Militia in the future. Both units are my top units at the moment even with being inexperienced! Close combat has easily been one of the most interesting aspects of this game and something that I was surprised to see so easy to do in the end.

Now to figure out if I should continue with 1 platoon or make the move to 2 in the larger points games. And if I go 2 platoons, what to purchase to make that happen :)

Should be interesting to see how I do up against the Russians now in the next game!

Am very curious how this will play out.. since the Soviets seem to have a lot of cheap expendable troops...

Just looking at Easy Army also for the Japanese... I created what could be the scariest army to face up against and to play/create!

2 platoons, 1250 pts..

Platoon 1
2nd Lieutenant, +2 men
Kempeitai Officer
Medic
15 Militia
15 Militia
15 Militia
15 Bamboo Warriors
15 Bamboo Warriors
Heavy Mortar w/Spotter

Platoon 2
2nd Lieutenant +1 man
Kempeitai Officer
Medic
15 Militia
15 Militia
15 Militia
15 Bamboo Warriors
15 Bamboo Warriors
Heavy Mortar w/Spotter

Order pool of 18, and 167 sets of boots on the ground within this force.

Only pieces that are regular are the Lieutenants with their men, and the medics. Everything else is inexperienced :) But with the Kempeitai officers running around to help boost the rolls, I am sure I will get a few regular upgrades ( like the bamboo warriors did last night! ).

What does everyone think? Aside from the crazy of building, and converting the bamboo warriors, the rest is pretty straightforward to get I think. And usable in bigger games anyways... but would it be a bit of "over-kill" in the infantry standpoint? :)
