Belguim, early 1940

Post by Chilledenuff » Thu Apr 10, 2014 6:00 am

Moved to a more logical place...
Inspired by PaulyJ's forthcoming Bolt Action escalation campaign I shall be painting/putting together my fledgeling Belgian force. I see it as the ideal oppurtunity to get these guys built/painted/finished as 600 points to start with will be hard work but the 200 point jumps between games should be easily achievable.

So far I have the following models, some under-coated; either Army Painter Leather Brown for regular troops or British Armour Green for Chasseurs Ardennes:

Image
(sorry about the hashness of the white on my spray board!)

That adds up to a pretty sizeable force:
3 x regular 2nd Lts + extra man (obviously these could be different hq aspects but for now 2nd lt is good enough) @ 60 each =180

4 x 10 man Regular (again could be inexperienced) squads including BAR and SMG @ 108 each (or 128 with VB launchers) = 432 (512)

2 x Veteran 10 man SChasseurs Ardennes squads @ 138 each (158 with VB launchers) = 276 (316)

Regular Antitank Rifle = 30

Veteran Antitank Rifle = 39

2 x Regular Light Howitzer @ 45 = 90

Veteran Light Howitzer @ 54

Regular Medium Howitzer (FREE!)

Regular Anti tank Gun @ 75

Regular T15 light tank @ 60

Regular Utility Tractor (for the medium howitzer) @ 48 points
Using the above points that gives me a nice 1166 to 1286 points range, although it would have to be 3 reinforced platoons above 750 points (assuming my mental arithmetic is right this early in the day )
I'll update this as I go along. The next step is to wrangle a 600 point list from that lot. :geek:

One of the best photo references I've found for ww2 Belgian infantry.. all are Chasseurs Ardennes, but helpfully an officer type!..

It's a lovely looking army but surely picking the Belgiums is asking for trouble...

The above list worked pretty well as a static affair but not sure how it will do with the next scenario.. time to read it I think :D

Another win (somehow!) In turn four it looked as though the Belgians were done for. 2 squads were reduced to tatters, my shooting was abysmal, 2 fubars and the Germans were streaming through the centre of the village seemingly unabated.
I blame Stu, he wandered over at this point and this appeared to be the catalyst I needed. Turn five and the artillery finally came good. The medium howitzer forced the mmg on my right down, saving the squad hunkered down behind a wall. On the left my heavy howitzer blew a full squad of Germans into atoms. Turn 6 was the decider though. I destroyed the veteran pioneer squad with the heavy howitzer and the last objective in the middle changed hands. First a squad of Germans ran up to claim it but they were then charged by my full strength veteran squad who massacred them. Turn seven started but apart from attempting to get extra attrition points it was all over. The Belgians still had the 2 objectives near their table edge and the centre. 4vps to 2.
