The only problem I have at the moment is a lack of antitank in the few toys I've got. I'm thinking some artillery, priests or sextons I guess. Would it be possible Poi to borrow your turning tide book so as I can get an idea of what options are available to me?

If you need Anti-Tank then I'd advise against Artillery. The hoops you have to jump through spot the target, land a barrage, hit the target and kill it are too many. Instead maybe some Self Propelled Anti-Tank assets like M10's. Hell even 6pdr guns would cause problems.

Artillery is only really good for smoke. IMHO.

In the game on Tuesday, Paul's masses arty did next to nothing the whole game. A shame as they look amazing and quite menacing.

I like the idea of m10s but everything i have read says they are one shot wonders, being very vulnerable to return fire, and certainly not able to withstand armour firing on them first, whereas artillery combined with airstrikes/naval barrage can be devastating. Also smoke will let my commandos get up close and personal with enemy tanks whilst impacting heavily on defensive fire.

Quick question for you all. I have the open fire Sherman tanks which are American M4A1 Shermans but I want to use them as British Sherman IIIs (which I think are M4A2 or M4A6 tanks) Can anyone give me a really good reason why i shouldn't?
The difference as I understand it, is how they made the hulls. At 15mm i don't think it matters that much so long as the gun and markings are correct. The guns are 75mm and there's a very good article here. My tanks will be from the 27th Armoured Brigade, Staffordshire Yeomanry.

i know I spoke to Paul about this in the past but I can't remember what my conclusion was then. As with all things I thought, meh, the internet will know. Much google trawling left me none the wiser.

Even more tempted by artillery now. The v3 changes make artillery seem more powerful now, especially combined with the revised British special rules!

6 to 8 gun batteries (size I'd be looking at really) reroll misses or use double wide template
Any British artillery can fire all troops from a battery as a combined bombardment
Mike Target gives a reroll to first Range In attempt (so effectively 4 attempts) and forces enemy to reroll saves using all guns repeat. Very nice

Also Night Attack has been redone (ooh!) meaning the British can elect to be Always Attacks. This gives British infantry Spearhead deployment. Very handy for the commandos who like to get up close and personal!

Another thing I like is that aircraft now range in automatically against targets in the open. Should help to protect any exposed flanks

The only differance between the two shermans is just the shape of the hull Sherman 1 (m4a1) is rounded edges and the Sherman 3 (m4a2) has straight egdes. nothing game wise at all.
