Spire House Ulanti's Pit of Champions - October 18th

Post by Latedave » Mon Sep 19, 2011 12:42 pm

To celebrate the recent marriage union between Spire House Ulanti and Greim a tournament has been laid on for the people of the underhive. The houses of the hive city are invited to choose their toughest fighters to battle for the Duke's title of Champion of the Hive. Duke Ulanti offers a 30 credit incentive to each fighter willing to take part with the winner taking a silver plated sword (worth 100 creds in cash, not that any fighter would consider pawning such a valuable trophy...) and the runner up an engraved pistol (worth 50 creds in cash...). The Duke reminds fighters that armour is strictly forbidden and, sadly after the casualties and fires of last year any weapon which requires a fighter to brace and fire or uses melta or plasma is strictly forbidden. A ten credit bonus will be paid to each fighter who takes out an opponent. The Duke does not wish his new wife's eyes disturbed by hideous monstrosities from the underworld, mutants will be killed on sight. Should numbers prove too few for a suitable spectacle the duke is amenable to delaying by a few days. Any professional bounty hunters or scummers are banned from taking part, this is strictly for amateurs.

Practicalities

Who can fight?: The reason for the advance notice is so people have time to tool up their gangers suitably. The game will take place with as many gangs who are up for it, each player selects two gang members. This can include heavy's and leaders but remember there are no sustained fire or move or fire weapons, the likelihood of serious injury is also pretty high! The Duke's not a fan of any overt mutants, therefore only hybrid strains may take part. Pit fighters, spyres etc may fight as normal but psykers are also forbidden.

Equipment: Your fighter may be equiped with: A pistol , rifle or special weapon that isn't move or fire, plasma or melta, (including rares). A hand to hand combat weapon (including rares but remember you could have it taken from you by the winner), a single grenade choice (including rares). Remember you're own your own for this fight so consider reliability as well (workshop bonus' apply).

Format: We'll aim to get two games in so hence two gangers each. The winning two gangers will face off against each other (unless they're in the same gang, in which case it might be time for one of them to be paid to take a dive!). The only exception to the normal Necromunda rules will be that man down gangers stagger back up on a 1-2 to represent the knowledge that serious injury is pretty likely!

Terrain: The terrain will be set up like a pit, bring your spare gang members as we'll arrange them around the side as an 'audience', there will only be one raised level as the Duke doesn't like his view of the action disturbed.

Bonuses: The Duke's a big fan of hand to hand carnage, any fighter taking someone out of action will gain 10 creds. He's also pumped some smoke into the pit to try and discourage fighters from staying back and taking pot shots. All shooting attacks are made with minus 1 BS although bonuses count as normal. If you roll of the recovery chart and go out of action then congratulations, you've just denied someone ten credits!

Deployment: Each ganger will be deployed in a cover protected corner but must move forward on their 1st turn. Turns will be decided randomly, each player rolls a dice and drawing players continue to roll until the order is decided. This means whoever goes first doesn't gain a huge advantage and adds a more random (but also hopefully fun) element.

Medical care: The duke's wife is a little more screamish than him so in deference to her he's laid on some Spyre doctors for wounded fighters. Therefore you may re-roll the first result on the serious injury chart (subsequent rolls stand however so think carefully!)

Victory and kills: Each fighter gains 5 exp as normal for inflicting wounds, however, putting a man out of action in hand to hand really gets the Duke and the crowds attention, you recieve 10 exp for taking someone out in hand to hand (ie if you put them man down and then take them out). If you just slip the knife into someone who's already man down from someone else then its just the ten creds unfortunately. Man down gangers still count as being active unless the player wishes to 'tap out' so you must have everyone out of action to win the event.

The winning ganger may also have the choice of taking a weapon from one of his defeated enemies so think carefully before giving your fighter anything too expensive!

Alliances: Alliances may be formed amongst gangers, however, the Duke is very much a free for all man. If you form an alliance with another ganger roll a D6, 1-3 the Duke doesn't notice anything suspicious, 4-6, you're spotted, either the Duke or one of his trained guards takes a shot at you! Another player may roll, its BS4 with no cover modifiers allowed, weapon counting as a boltgun so S4.

Remember as well, there can only be one! Choose that moment to betray your ally carefully...

End game: The Duke's provided food and entertainment, this is just a family day out so no territory/ income rolls are required, your heavy's and leaders count as having visited the trade post whilst in the upper hive. Any cash gained from fighting is yours to spend!

Anyway hopefully this should be really good fun, as usual any comments or feedback welcome!

Just a friendly reminder, can people start pinging up here if they're taking part, its a royal rumble format so would be good to get a feel for how many teams we're going to have. I know Les was out but most other people seemed to be up for taking part.
