So I am currently deciding whether I should paint the helms of my Terminators in white

Or

Input? Other than the fact that I need to thin my white a little. As per Les's comment earlier the model is better in person, the harsh differences is more of a product of the camera showing it up in the extreme.

I agree on the white helm - a tiny wash with black ink and re-highlight with white would look awesome.

Thanks for the input. I have washed and highlighted the helm twice however I was probably over zealous with the highlights which probably makes it look like I have just painted the white on poorly.

Realised this morning that I can actually use this dude in my army simply by swapping the Heavy Flamer arm for a Storm Bolter arm, which means that he is not a complete tester model.

I was tempted to paint the right shoulder pad white as well, its hard to tell without actually seeing it but does anyone have an opinion on this?

Yeah, that might look nice -

Something that might be interesting to think about is what the prime colours are that you want to use. I'd normally go for only two - in this case the black/dark armour, and then either red or white to complement.

The danger with having too much red and white is that it can dilute the colour scheme too much... but it might be worth trying it to see.

I'd leave the shoulderpad blue, mayhap a kneepad though?

So I have done another helm (this one was metal) and I tried not to paint over the base layer so much leaving a much harsher difference between the light and dark. I think it works much better, however the model is metal and the detail is much crisper.

More White helmet fun.

The red blob is going to be removed as it was a failed experiment. The tiny writing on the shield is actually a bit of a cheat, I stole the idea off of a painting video. I used a 0.05mm black pen (Uni pin fine line from Hobby Craft) to do the writing. I think its really cool and adds a decent dynamic to it.

looks great... one and only one critique.. paint the barrels of the stormbolter black! a filled gun barrel can only end in tears. :D The white looks great. Fineliner pens are ace(I have 3, a 0.05, a 0.1 and a0.2) really useful if you can't paint skinny lines
