To war! For Sigmar!

To mark the launch of WFB8, a few of us are starting new armies, starting at 750 points and then growing in 250 point blocks.

How are shooty armies doing in 8th? My gut feeling is that unless scenery slows the enemy enough, increased charge ranges create problems for them.

To be honest, I wouldn't consider the Steam Tank primarily as shooty - while it does have that capability I think it's much more effective in melee, frankly.

The Cannons meanwhile should pose a threat - particularly with a Master Engineer to provide one with re-rolls on the first roll (ie = should ensure no misfire at least). That said, I've had pretty bad rolls the last couple of games!

And handgunners are really there for cheapish support. At 85 pts you're most likely looking at 10 hits on 4 for the champ and 5 for the rest (at long range) - S4 means again, hopefully a few casualties.

But as Poi says - with bigger charge ranges (and, to be fair terrain is a lot less effective at slowing things down now), it's a risky strategy to throw everything behind ranged...

My artillerry is doing ok, 2 rock lobbas in tandem targeting a single unit per turn are especially good against anything toughness elf. The doom diver has become scarily accurate now it's not guess anymore

Hmmm,

Maybe I wont be taking my Varghulf on Tuesday afterall, someone was trying to persuade me to take it but with the possibility of eating 3 cannonballs a turn methinks NA!!!

I will be there on Tuesday Phil. I will likely be running the list I wanted to as well, something different (well a little different anyway).

Are you posting the list, or will it remain a mystery? :-)

In all honesty I havent actually worked it out completely. The plan was for the following

Vamp Lord
BSB
Vamp thrall
Ghouls
Grave Guard

Numbers and equipment hadnt been costed yet as I have been away since Friday morning. I will work it out tomorrow and post it up.

Its likely to be something like what I took against Rich last week. Though likely without Konrad as I cant fit him in at 1500 points and cover enough bases. Combat lord with magic vamp backup, combat lord did very well last week. Still it will be a list that will get out manouvered really easily, however the only mobile thing I have thats built is my Varghulf which isnt going to be taken.

Sounds good. I'm sure I'll still get hammered ;-)

Meanwhile, finished my knights last night - they just need to be based. Task for tonight is the Master Engineer.

So the lineup tomorrow for the losing side is:

Vamp Lord - Kickass combat monster, wait for him to swing :)

Wight King BSB
Vampire Thrall - Magic Vamp

21 Ghouls
21 Ghouls
10 Skeletons

25 Grave Guard

Ive made better lists, however this one is really sacrificing bulk to get a kick ass lord in it. If only I was a gobbo, I could afford a lord choice for 180 point, hell I could take almost 2!!!!
